OMG! I just had an epiphany (or something as such...) while listening to the SXSW 2010 line up. The band is called The Jim Jones Revue. My request for the next Strombo Show: "Princess and the Frog." Thanks!

I realy like your supreme topic! Could you write the term papers for example? Because I do know that a good custom writing service can create custom essays of supreme quality.

Hey: We need a play list. Short of that, what was the name of the song you played around 2100 EST 21 Feb 2010? The refrain had "home" in it. It was a great song. Thanks and great show. Paul

Wondering why there aren't any playlists or podcasts available for this show?

Hi George, wrote a long story here and pressed 'submit' and forgot the "human verification"... So let's keep things short this time, just in case. I remember seeing you on TV in show called Jyrki. It was a Finnish music program that had a deal of some sort with Much Music. Anyways I see you're still in the business, and thought I'd share something you've probably never heard before, maybe you like them, maybe not. Hopefully you have the time to check 'em out. Take care! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83_Qxl_VLZk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBteE1EKWMI

George, You could have not picked a better song to end with tonight. Happy Valentine's Day!

Hey! I have been tuned in since about 10pm (Vancouver time) and I just wanted to mention that though I have been enjoying most of the songs you have been playing (especially Tom), I didn't really start bopping my head along until you played Pantera. An awesome addition to the mix. You will be able to find a bride, I'm sure!

george- heres a group I just heard about, the Aerovons a beatles-esque group from 1968 I think it qualify's as a "never heard of band" they recorded at abby lane records but never released an albulm. Hey Chrys! You have a lot of 'y's in your name. You sound like quite the crabbY little fellow, with a repetitive psYchotic tendencY to give negative criticism. But, glad you like the Habs, sometimes. Good luck to you
10 Chrys Goyens / 2010-02-05
You have far too many "u's" in your name; knock it off. As for the rest of it, keep doin' what you're doin'. It is good stuff, although I don't give a tinker's unowot about punk rockers. I'm into jazz and thus am a superior being. Habs rule (sometimes) Best wishes Chrs Goyejns

If people are not really sure what to select, college essays or english essay, they can ask you, just because you do know the right way to finish the good enough information related to this post.

Hey, your Sunday show is really something I look forward to throughout the week! I really enjoyed the Pink Floyd, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Phoenix, etc… that you’ve been playing. It would be incredibly cool to hear some Joy Division or some Raconteurs. I really liked the Elvis Perkins in Dearland song “Shampoo” you played and hope to hear many like it in the future. Take it easy man… :)

A couple electricians just came by the store to fix our e-panel. One of the electricians looked just like you. I almost asked him if I could hug him, but I thought it might be too weird, and purhaps, out of context. Damn! VK

Hey George! Can by to say listening to some Moeraes Fate from The Strombo Show .. saw these Ladies live in Niagara Falls on New Years Eve and they rocked my world!! When I found out they were playing at Hard Rock in Toronto I had to make it happen to go see them live again.. they are an awesome trio of Lady Rock! Picked up a signed CD and Moeraes Fate T-shirt after their show .. haven't been this blown away with immediately hearing them since grade 8 when I first heard AC/DC Big Balls cranked on the boombox! Be Safe, Keep Warm and Stay Cool!!

Re. Tonight's Sad Off What is it that makes a song sad for you? Is it because it moves you to tears... is it because it reminds you of a life event that was happening when you first heard the song… is it because the song is part of the soundtrack for a sad movie you saw... does it remind you of a special person or place… is it the lyrics... the tune... the instruments... that it is relatable? Is it the story of the musician who took his life after writing it... the history of the song that you hear in an interview that makes it sad to you..? Does it remind you of some loss you‘ve experienced - a loved one, a relationship, a time of life, etc? Is it strictly a feeling? Is it indescribable? Is it sad because it reminds you that life is fleeting and how insignificant we all are on the great radar screen of the universe? What about the sad songs that although they contain sad lyrics, the music makes you want to dance or sing out loud… or do you know it is a sad song because it affects you so deeply, that when you hear it come on the radio while driving, you have to turn it up and pull your car over… so you can close your eyes and really listen to it… really feel it? Maybe it is some, none or all of these elements... thus why music is so personal and intimate... but surely the definition will impact the selection of sad songs you make for the show. It can be the song itself that makes it a sad song… but more likely it is a person’s experience of that song, that really is the determining factor… and that imho (in my humble opinion), is more interesting than reading a list of music. I don't know what your definition is, but here are my saddest songs... 1) Hallelujah sung by Jeff Buckley - I heard you guys play it but I don't think that was the saddest version... (written by Leonard Cohen) 2) Hurt sung by Johnny Cash (written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails) 3) Man of the Hour by Pearl Jam 4) Creep by Radiohead 5) Crying sung by KD Lang (written by Roy Orbison) 6) Crazy sung by Patsy Cline (written by Willie Nelson) 7) Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd 8) The Great Escape sung by Azure Ray (written by Moby, Maria Taylor, Orinda Fink) 9) Turn Out the Lights by Stephen Fearing 10) Concerto in E-major, The Spring - Largo by Vivaldi Some other sad songs that may not sound as sad imho, yet are good songs with sad lyrics and/or that feel sad are... Almost any Joy Division song How Soon Is Now by the Smiths Joey by Concrete Blonde Blue Monday by New Order Luka by Suzanne Vega Dead Can Dance - The Host of Seraphim About to Leap by Burnt Project 1

Sad Songs, Frank Mroz December 20 at 11:13pm I can't believe you actually have time to read all these ... anyway, having just lost in love, again, the see ya later came the day after my birthday, the day after we saw Bruce Springsteen in Buffalo, Nov 22, a legendary show to say the least ... anyway, having already started a cd for Kristina, it took an abrupt about face, & I added some of the saddest fucking songs I knew ... So, I'm gonna pick 2 - Because I Can't Make You Love Me, is so fucking obvious, I am picking The Handsome Family's A Beautiful Thing vs Jim Cuddy's New Year's Eve. In the case of The Handsome Family, you have lyrics written by a women, & sung by a man, which I believe adds to the sadness, cuz face it, we men Cannot really figure those creatures out. So singing a women's lyrics, passionately as Brett does, gets us as close as we can get ... maybe. The music is so melancholy. I don't know about you, but when I hear this song, I think about all the things I have loved, & lost, & you can take that cliche, 'Tis better to have loved & lost, Than never have loved at all' (Tennyson), & shove it. You can just imagine a legion of women wanting to comfort Jim in his sorrow, but listen to the opening lines, & you know this guy is torn, torn ... nothing will help. New Year's Eve, gotta be just about the saddest night of the year ... the line 'people ask me how I'm doing now', 'I say I'm doing fine' - so simple, yet so poignant. This was the complete cd by the way .... When Will I Ever Learn To Live In God 5:39 Van Morrison Cherokee Morning Song 4:34 Walela Sumac Nuista 3:13 Merchant Of Love 4:49 Joan Armatrading I Can’t Believe It’s Over 4:18 Bent 4AM 3:40 Cherry Ghost New Year’s Eve 4:14 Jim Cuddy A Beautiful Thing 3:39 The Handsome Family Make You Feel My Love 3:32 Adele Train From Kansas City 3:25 Neko Case Wake Up 5:35 Arcade Fire I Can’t Make You Love Me 5:33 Bonnie Raitt These Days 3:39 Jackson Browne Nwahulwana 6:41 Orchestra Marrabenta Dream Baby Dream 6:20 Suicide Joy Tears 4:47 Greg Brown Thank you, Frank Mroz Reply:

I got into my room at the Fairmont YVR after flying in from T.O. and your show was playing on the radio in my room,... with Tom Waits playing. No, it really doesn't get any better than that!
23 Serena from Guelph / 2009-12-14
Love the show! If you're looking for beautiful songs that will send your listeners floating to bed, try Song of the Siren from This Mortal Coil, and Sanvean from Dead Can Dance. These are two of the most achingly, soaringly, gorgeous pieces of music I have ever heard. Peace.
24 Jennifer / 2009-12-14
I LOVE Roland Gift - thanks for the FYC - one of my favourites is his cover of Love for Sale from the Red Hot and Blue album...agreed with Rich, it would be great to hear some new material...fingers crossed. Cheers.

George As the "Zillion ACTS OF KINDNESS" went so well PLEASE CONSIDER this The TED organization's promoting "THE CHARTER OF COMPASION" lead by Karen Armstrong ( K.A. has been on the CBC Radio Tapestry many times) AS BEING POTENTIALLY GREAT TO HAVE ON YOUR SHOW TOO!!! This would be the continuation of "Acts of Kindness" and applicable to the QUALITY of Content. Thanks Guy!!
31 Phil / 2009-11-30
Were you at the Big Pink show at Lee's last night? If not you have one hell of a doppelganger. Great show by the way.

Your frequency guide is useless for us Hamsters in b'ham, wa. I listened last Sunday and told everyone to tune in tonight, but I can't find you!!! I'm so fustrated. I can't match the song on the computer to a frequency on my radio. Despair....

Recent sad song... Whiskey Lullaby... nobody does sad and depressing better than a country star.
34 Daffyd Edgar / 2009-11-27
Back in the day, I used to listen to the saddest music I could find just to see how bummed out I could make myself. My favourite bummer song of all time was Tea and Sympathy by Janis Ian. Give it a listen, but have someone take away your razor, belt and shoelaces first.
35 KP / 2009-11-25
The Saddest song...... Just got to play The Long Road by Domenica it beats most for the "past twenty and broke-down but still hanging onto reality" set. Runner-up- Free, another sad sad sad song by Domenica. Then comes I Love My Gun an inspirationally "sad" political song with a quick way to separate out those "Canajans" from those that ain't eh! Love it all!
36 Jean / 2009-11-22
About that story about the Kings of Leon and the right to have a gun to shoot at cans: as an american, i need to correct what they said. they are clearly the victims of the substandard educational system in the US. Amendment 2 of the bill of rights is "a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." u see, its about a militia, not about every person being allowed to have a gun. Canada is clearly smarter in these matters. rock on, our fine neighbor. Jean, from the ghetto in Detroit, where the frequent gunfire is against my rights.

Gold: "I mean, 'Enter Sandman,' from Metallica's 1991 self-titled album? Really? Not to say there isn't some classic stuff on the torture playlist, but even my 12-year-old nephew would choose something a little more unexpected than Nine Inch Nails to shatter an utterly demoralized man's already tenuous grip on reality."

Of the two songs played tonight, I would say One is the sadder one. For me, the saddest song of all time has always been the Foo Fighters cover of Baker Street.
46 Don / 2009-11-15
You were covering sad songs. Your guest had two mildly sad ones. There is no song sadder than Gloomy Sunday. Try the Billy Holiday version and be careful. It is not for the faint of heart, quite seriously. Don

Show was AWESOME! Even better than I expected. There were parts that actually brought back some wonderful memories of my teens years-listening to CBC's Brave New Waves. I tweeted all week to my friends to tune in to the show and the feedback is incredible-the girls think you sound as hot as you look LOL Would love to see you play some heavier stuff like Nina Hagen, maybe something from Rammstein's new cd or maybe some old Ministry, but so far-the musical choices are sublime! Looking forward to next week's program! Welcome back to the airwaves!
